We will walk the project and develop a scope of work, identifying a generator location that works for you while considering code requirements, safety, and manufacturer installation guidelines. We will discuss the location of the CLS (critical load sub-panel), the ATS (automatic transfer switch), and conduit runs. We will take photos and measurements needed for permit documents. We will also provide pictures of what the project will resemble and review photos of similar projects we’ve installed to give you a clear idea of the aesthetics. A proposal will be delivered the same day.

The actual installation typically takes 2 to 4 days, depending on the scope of work, and there will likely be at least two inspections. The permit process can take up to 30 days, depending on the jurisdiction. While permits are in process, we will shop-test your generator and gather or order all materials needed for installation. Once permits are finalized, we will schedule activation, start-up, testing, and commissioning of the generator.

We order your generator if we do not already have it in stock (we carry a large inventory of generators in-house), prepare permits, order and organize materials, and handle all logistics. Even if you don’t see activity at your home right away, important progress is happening behind the scenes.

Installing a generator mechanically while taking into account the aesthetics of your home, installing per local and national codes and manufacturer recommendations, and clearly communicating the process before and during installation are all crucial to a successful install.

The generator is sized based on the client’s needs, the appliance loads being powered, and the foundation of the existing electrical system.

Electrical and gas piping permits are required in all jurisdictions, with the exception of land zoned for agriculture. One Way Electric always installs per local and national code.

Depending on the size of the generator and the complexity of the installation, pricing typically ranges from $10,500–$18,500 for air-cooled units. For liquid-cooled units, pricing can range from $28,000–$90,000.

The warranty covers failed parts and labor to replace them on the generator or transfer switch. Yearly maintenance helps prevent failures and keeps your machine running smoothly.

Yearly maintenance is required by the manufacturer and helps keep your generator operating correctly. Oil filters, spark plugs, air filters, and other components should be replaced annually. Inspection of hoses, wiring, and other components in both the generator and ATS is also part of preventive maintenance. We will also perform a quick test and record voltage output during the visit.
